My name is Craig Houston or ‘Bear’ and I established Bear in Mind with the aim of ‘Making a Difference’ to the Mental Health and Wellbeing culture in our communities. I am committed to tackling the stigma around Mental Health, as I believe, it prevents so many from getting the help they deserve! I am passionate about supporting others to live to their full potential, with the necessary tools needed to navigate the inevitable setbacks life will conjure up.
My desire is to see Mental Health recognised and prioritised, in the same vein, as physical health! Together we can make this a reality…

Everyone has Mental Health in the same way that everyone has physical health. Mental Health impacts all of us to some extent and if it is not given the appropriate care, can detract from our overall wellbeing. It is reported that 1 in 4 people in the United Kingdom will experience a Mental Health problem each year and as many as 1 in 6 people reporting a common Mental Health problem (anxiety, depression, etc) each week. First Aid for Mental Health will enable learners to recognise the signs and symptoms of many mental Health conditions, reduce stigma and provide crucial support to any individual in need.
Imagine the ability to tip the balance and change a life forever. Every year close to 800,000 people take their own life and there are many more people who attempt suicide. Every suicide is a tragedy that affects families, communities and entire countries and has long-lasting effects on the people left behind. Suicide occurs throughout the lifespan and was the second leading cause of death among 15-29-year-olds globally in 2016. The World Health Organisation (WHO) recognises suicide as a public health priority. Suicide First Aid provides learners with the tools to be able to provide life-saving interventions.
What is Safeguarding? It’s how we can protect children, young people and vulnerable adults from abuse, neglect or other detrimental actions of another individual or individuals. Everyone has the right of protection from these actions and by teaching how to recognise the signs of abuse and neglect we can prevent the needless suffering and harm brought to bear on the most vulnerable in our society.
